The Dammuso

The Dammuso

Casa Martingana is a complex of two dammusi on different levels overlooking the beautiful cove of the same name and surrounded by the typical terraces of the island, the margette. The land owned allows direct access to the sea

It has been expanded over the years, starting in the mid-1970s, starting from the original nucleus an agricultural dammuso used as a base for working the land in the area that is over a hundred years old – and arriving today at the structure that distinguishes it.

Casa Martingana is characterized both internally and externally by respect for local architectural canons that make it a traditional modern dammuso.

The Main House

The upper house is the main dammuso of the complex. It was born around the nucleus of the original old dammuso over a hundred years old which today houses the bedroom inserted in the typical alcove and flanked by a large study-living room.

The kitchen built in a first expansion at the end of the 70s has a large living space with the typical tiled sink and several arched niches that house both appliances and shelves with utensils and crockery. The internal kitchen, a rather rare feature for dammusi a mare, allows the complex to be used at any time.

The dammuso is completed by a small bedroom which makes it ideal for a family and a bathroom with shower.

The Lower House

The lower house is a dammuso built from scratch in the early 1980s which, however, maintains the typical characteristics of this type of structure with walls covered with lava stone and white domed roofs.

It opens onto a large bedroom, now equipped with two single beds that can also become a double bed and which offers space for a living area.

The dammuso is equipped with a large and bright bathroom with shower and a small study area equipped with the necessary arrangements to be equipped with a kitchenette and make it independent from the main house.

The exteriors

Casa Martingana offers wide open spaces to enjoy the splendid sea view and to relax in the tranquility of the area.

The two dammusi both have a terrace that can be equipped for relaxing in the sun in the quiet of your home.

The complex is surrounded by large terraces that host the cultivation of capers and grapes and some olive trees. The most delicate citrus plants – lemons and oranges – are instead planted within the two Pantelleria gardens that flank the two dammusi.
